Girl in Blue Armchair is ABSOLUTELY CHARMING
Friday, February 01, 2008,
....says theatre critic, Martin Brady. "She (Susan Courtney) hasn't layered it too thick (like paint!) with 19th century verbal gravitas or art-world pomposity. It's very human throughout." In the Tubac Center of the Arts production of the staged reading, Martin Brady (also a seasoned actor) will be playing the role of Edgar Degas. The playwright, Susan Courtney, will play Mary Cassatt and Polly Schlitz will play her sister, Lydia Cassatt. Susan Courtney and Polly Schlitz are both professional New York actresses and members of Actor's Equity. Tubac's very own "child star," Cynthia Topping, will take the role of Emily (the girl in the blue chair), and Shaw Kinsley will be playing the part of Mary Cassatt's father. The reading will take place Friday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2 pm. The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members.Call the Center for reservations.

What a uniquely versatile ensemble this is! From classical to Gershwin and Scott Joplin, the quartet has entertained audiences in the air (their's was a featured disc on both United and American Airlines) and the ground, including, by request from the Office of the President, the East Room of the White House in 1995. They have been featured as guest solo enbsemle with the Phoenix Symphony Pops Orchestra as well as on radio and Fox, CBS and ABC. They have been called "astounding" and a "composer's dream come true." We welcome them back to Tubac after a 10 year absence.
