"I really like this painting but this area here isn't right". We say this all the time. "I should have"... "I don't know... the color isn't right". Maybe you have a strong composition or strong color but the values are off. The values are accurate but oof-- that color!! Maybe it would look better cropped. it is too dark. It is too light... The painting isn't working as is but you like the subject or parts of the painting. Rather than reworking, possibly getting muddy or overworked, it may be best to start fresh. Bring your studies or un finished pieces. Let's evaluate their strengths and weaknesses and see them with new eyes. Maybe use it as a spring board for a new piece... or maybe tweak! For this class, students are expected to have a little painting experience (how to handle your materials). You will need your own paint supplies. We will begin with critiques of what you have and take it from there!

Instructor Bio

Barbara A Mulleneaux

Barbara Mulleneaux moved to Tucson. AZ in 1994. She began painting in 2001and joined Tucson Plein Air Painters Society in 2002, eventually serving as their president. Between 2015-2025, Barbara has won Best in Show, honorariums and placed in regional and national plein air events and shown in juried exhibitions nationally. She is a 4-time invited artist at the Sedona Plein Air Festival (national event) and 2-time invited artist to the Art in the Pines Festival, Prescott AZ. Barbara received Signature status in the Tucson Plein Air Painters Society, (now Sonoran Plein Air Painters) in 2018. In 2022, she served a one month residency at the Ghost Ranch (Estudio Corozon) in New Mexico. Barbara has organized and curated shows, juried and judged in Arizona and New Mexico. Barbara became a Mastrius mentor in 2026.She currently teaches and shows her work in Arizona. Member of SPAP, AZPAP, PAPNM, NOAPS, AIS
