This workshop series is designed to help artists break through hesitation and discover the power of bold painting. Through gestural brushwork, strong composition and unapologetic color, participants will learn to trust their instincts and find their visual voice in watercolor! Open to artists at all levels who want to level-up their technique and confidence. Beginners will discover essential watercolor basics; advanced painters will push into greater boldness and paint more like yourself. What you'll learn: Bold Brushwork. Let go of fear and embrace confident strokes that carry energy and clarity. Glow of Watercolor. Explore how to harness clean pigments, transparency and timing to capture luminosity in skies and water. Color with Courage. Experiment with limited palettes, explore warm vs. cool contrasts and push pigments to reveal vibrancy without muddiness. Techniques for Light. Dropping clean colour into wet washes, colour harmony & avoiding overwork. Workshop Structure: Instead of treating watercolor as “one skill,” we break it into distinct, learnable parts. These micro-skills are taught through Live demonstrations, Guided sessions, and Personalised one-on-one feedback.

Instructor Bio

Rehann Vazid

Rehann Vazid is Melbourne-based watercolour artist & Educator whose practice explores the dynamic and expressive potential of watercolour. He draws inspiration from his time in nature - hiking, snorkeling, kayaking and his love of literature and poetry, and finds a way to channel that into his art. He uses his art and teaching to share a message - to get out of the chair, the studio and to go outside into nature. It works wonders for the art, but also for the artist. After a 15-year career in product and user experience design, Rehann made a deliberate transition into painting full-time. Along the way, he adopted several personal principles that profoundly shape his artistic life: he does not do competitions, exhibitions or commission work. He essentially has no social media presence, as he believes that public performance and digital visibility often disrupt an artist’s growth and ability to discover who they truly are as an artist. In both his art and his teaching, immediacy is central. Rehann paints wet-into-wet, typically completing a work within 20–30 minutes while the paper is still wet. He teaches only in person, rejecting online classes and recorded tutorials in favour of real, embodied learning where attention, intuition and physical engagement shape the outcome. His teaching focuses on developing intuitive skills, painting fearlessly, building confidence and understanding how to create luminosity and movement in watercolour. After living in India and Australia for 2 decades each, he now mostly spends his time travelling, painting & teaching.

A very big Thank You for today’s wonderful workshop with the Northern Beaches Art Society. I was blown away by the wonderful light, translucency and vibrancy of your work.

I just wanted to say a big thank you for an amazing Bold and Glow Workshop over this last weekend here in Auckland. It was fun and challenging and even though I was right out of my comfort zone with your fast and loose style of painting, it was very enjoyable. I especially loved painting the Fiordland scene, and my aim is to paint it over and over so as to perfect what I learnt.

The things that stood out for me were how you described what happens to the wash when you go back after the first wash, before it’s fully dry - that the particles of pigment and the binder gum arabic get disturbed leading to a less pleasing, smooth wash. And also your tips on how to avoid the dreaded cauliflower :)
